A complete hybrid energy system in one rack-mounted unit

The Victron Multi RS19 Solar brings together three essential energy-system components:

  • A powerful 48V inverter
  • An intelligent AC battery charger
  • Two independent 3000 W high-voltage MPPT solar chargers

Its standard 19-inch format makes it particularly suitable for installations using rack-mounted lithium batteries. At only 133 mm high, the unit provides a clean and professional installation while reducing the number of separate components, cables and communication interfaces required.

The Multi RS19 Solar supports hybrid, backup, off-grid and generator-assisted operation, making it suitable for a wide variety of professional energy systems.

Powerful inverter with excellent surge capability

The inverter delivers up to 5300 W continuous output at 25°C and 52V DC, depending on battery voltage. Its high surge capacity makes it suitable for demanding loads with high start-up currents, including pumps, compressors, motors and power tools.

Key inverter performance:

  • Maximum continuous inverter current: 25A AC
  • Continuous output at 25°C: up to 5300 W
  • Continuous output at 40°C: 4500 W
  • Continuous output at 65°C: 3000 W
  • Peak output: 9000 W for 3 seconds
  • Extended overload capability: 7000 W for up to 4 minutes
  • Maximum efficiency: 96.5% at 1kW load
  • Efficiency at 5kW load: 94%
  • Zero-load consumption: approximately 20 W

Automatic protection is provided against short circuit, overload, high or low battery voltage, excessive temperature, AC voltage on the inverter output and solar earth leakage.

Dual independent 450V MPPT solar inputs

Two separate MPPT trackers allow two independent PV arrays to be connected. Each tracker can process up to 3000 W, providing a total integrated PV conversion capacity of 6000 W.

Each tracker can be configured for a different panel orientation, roof section or string design. This is especially useful when panels are installed on east/west roof surfaces or when different shading conditions are present.

The advanced SmartSolar MPPT algorithm continuously searches for the optimum power point and includes partial-shading detection to improve energy harvesting under changing conditions.

Solar-input specifications:

  • Number of MPPT trackers: 2
  • Maximum power per tracker: 3000 W
  • Total PV conversion capacity: 6000 W
  • MPPT operating range: 65–450 V DC
  • PV start-up voltage: 120 V DC
  • Maximum open-circuit PV voltage: 450 V DC
  • Maximum operational input current: 12A per tracker
  • Maximum PV short-circuit current: 16A per tracker
  • PV connection: two independent positive and negative MC4 connections

The maximum PV open-circuit voltage must also remain below eight times the configured battery float voltage. Cold-weather string-voltage increases must be included when designing the PV array.

Up to 100A battery charging

The Multi RS19 Solar can charge the connected 48V battery bank from several energy sources:

  • The two integrated MPPT solar trackers
  • The AC grid
  • A compatible generator
  • An AC-coupled PV inverter connected to the supported system architecture

The maximum combined charging current from AC and PV is 100A DC. At 230V AC input, 57.6V battery voltage and 25°C ambient temperature, the maximum charging current from the AC source is approximately 88A.

The configurable charging algorithm supports adaptive bulk, absorption, float and storage stages. Battery presets and expert charging parameters can be configured through VictronConnect. Battery-voltage sensing and the included battery-temperature sensor help compensate for cable losses and temperature changes.

PowerControl protects a limited grid or generator connection

PowerControl allows the installer to define the maximum current that may be drawn from the grid, shore supply or generator.

The Multi RS19 Solar measures the power required by the connected AC loads and uses only the remaining available current for battery charging. This helps prevent an overloaded grid connection or generator.

PowerAssist adds battery power during peak demand

When the connected loads temporarily require more power than the grid or generator can provide, PowerAssist supplements the available AC source with energy from the battery.

When demand decreases again, the available surplus power can be used to recharge the battery. This is particularly valuable for installations with:

  • Limited grid connections
  • Small generators
  • High temporary start-up loads
  • Equipment with intermittent power peaks
  • Restricted shore-power connections

The unit supports a maximum AC input and pass-through current of 50A.

Fast backup operation

AC-out-1 is the protected inverter output. When the grid or generator supply fails, the Multi RS19 Solar can continue powering connected critical loads from the battery and available solar energy.

A second output, AC-out-2, is intended for non-critical loads that should operate only while an external AC source is available. AC-out-2 is supplied directly from the AC input and is unavailable during battery-only operation.

Typical non-critical loads can include:

  • Electric water heaters
  • Air-conditioning equipment
  • EV charging equipment
  • Other loads that do not require backup power

Hybrid, backup, off-grid and generator operation

The Multi RS19 Solar supports several operating concepts.

Hybrid mode

Excess solar energy is stored in the battery and can be used later during the night, periods of low solar production or times of high demand.

Backup mode

Critical equipment connected to AC-out-1 can continue operating during a grid outage, provided sufficient battery or solar energy is available.

Off-grid mode

The system can operate without a permanent grid connection and can combine solar, battery storage and an optional generator.

Generator mode

The Multi RS19 Solar can reduce generator loading, support temporary power peaks from the battery and control generator start and stop through the programmable relay.

PV-inverter-only mode

Subject to the appropriate grid code, certification and grid-operator approval, the two integrated MPPT trackers can also be used without a battery, allowing the Multi RS19 Solar to operate as a grid-connected PV inverter.

Built-in Bluetooth and VictronConnect

Bluetooth Smart is built into the unit, allowing local configuration and monitoring through the VictronConnect application.

VictronConnect provides access to:

  • AC input and output values
  • PV voltage, current and power for each tracker
  • Battery voltage, current and state of charge
  • Charging status
  • Historical solar data
  • Trend graphs
  • Operating modes
  • Battery charging parameters
  • Grid settings
  • Relay configuration
  • Auxiliary-input functions
  • System and three-phase configuration
  • Firmware updates

The integrated backlit LCD screen also displays essential inverter, battery, AC and solar information directly on the front panel.

Professional communication interfaces

The Multi RS19 Solar includes:

  • Bluetooth Smart
  • Two VE.Can ports
  • Two BMS-Can ports
  • VE.Direct
  • Programmable relay
  • Two programmable auxiliary inputs
  • Remote on/off connections
  • Battery-voltage sensing
  • Battery-temperature sensing

A GX device such as a Cerbo GX must be connected through VE.Can, not through VE.Direct. VE.Direct can be used for a GlobalLink 520 or for configuration from a Windows computer using a VE.Direct-to-USB interface.

Compatible managed lithium batteries can communicate using BMS-Can. The exact connection method depends on whether a GX device is present and on the battery manufacturer’s supported Victron integration.

Expandable solar architecture

The integrated 6000 W PV capacity can be extended with additional DC-coupled Victron solar chargers.

Compatible AC-coupled PV inverters may also be incorporated. The Multi RS19 Solar includes frequency-shift control to reduce the output of an AC-coupled PV inverter when the battery approaches its charging limit.

For complete battery charging from solar energy, a DC-coupled PV source should remain part of the system because an external AC PV inverter alone may not charge the battery fully to 100% state of charge.

Optional three-phase operation

Three Multi RS19 Solar units can be configured as a three-phase system, with one unit installed on each phase.

Important system restrictions:

  • Maximum three units per synchronized system
  • One Multi RS19 Solar per phase
  • Parallel operation on the same phase is not supported
  • Split-phase operation is not supported
  • Three-phase systems require VE.Can communication and correct termination
  • Star configuration with a distributed neutral is required
  • Delta configuration is not supported

Designed for 48V battery systems

The Multi RS19 Solar is intended for 48V battery banks and can be configured for suitable lead-acid or lithium battery systems.

For lithium installations, a compatible BMS and the correct communication or allow-to-charge/allow-to-discharge wiring must be used. Battery compatibility, maximum charge current and required communication architecture must always be confirmed before installation.
