More info

The Victron BMV-712 battery monitor is the most extensive battery monitor with built-in Bluetooth and an extra input. The additional input can be used to measure voltage (of a second battery), temperature or midpoint voltage and associated alarm and relay settings.

A battery monitor provides insight into your power consumption and the status of the battery. An indispensable tool for monitoring the battery bank. In addition to battery voltage, current and ampere-hours consumed, the BMV-700 series also indicates the charging status (%), time remaining and power consumption in watts. This set consists of (see images) a monitor with associated shunt (500A) and a cable set; no further parts are needed.

Standard properties
- Battery voltage, current, power, ampere hours consumed and charging status
- Remaining time at the current discharge rate
- Programmable visual and acoustic alarm
- Programmable relay to switch off non-critical loads or to run a generator if necessary
- 500 amp shunt with quick coupling and connection set
- Shunt selection option up to 10,000 amps
- VE.Direct communication port
- Can store a large number of historical events that can be used to evaluate usage patterns and battery health
- Wide input voltage range: 6.5 – 70V
- High current measurement resolution: 10 mA (0.01A)
- An additional value to measure voltage (of a second battery), temperature or midpoint voltage and the associated alarm and relay settings

The BMV-712 battery monitor measures with very high precision within a supply voltage range of 6.5 - 70 VDC.
The essential function of a battery monitor is to calculate the battery status and the number of ampere hours consumed. The BMV-712 battery monitor optionally displays battery voltage, current, ampere hours consumed, remaining battery capacity and time remaining. These last two parameters ensure that you can read the remaining battery capacity as precisely as on a petrol pump. An advanced backlight LCD screen clearly shows all values.

Bluetooth built-in
With built-in Bluetooth, the BMV Smart is ready for the era of the Internet of Things (IoT). With Bluetooth implemented in most other Victron Energy products, wireless communication between the products will simplify system installation and improve performance.

Use a smartphone or other Bluetooth-enabled device to:
- adjust the settings
- keep an eye on all important data on a single screen,
- view historical data
- update the software when new features become available

Easy to install
All electrical connections are made via the printed circuit board with quick coupling on the current shunt. The shunt connects to the display with a standard RJ12 telephone cable. Included: RJ 12 cable (10 m) and battery cable with fuse (2 m); no further parts are needed. Also included is a separate washer for the appearance of the front of a square or round display, a retaining ring for rear mounting and screws for front mounting.

Monitoring of the center voltage
One bad cell or one bad battery can destroy a large, expensive battery bank. If batteries are connected in series, a timely warning can be generated by measuring the midpoint voltage. See the BMV manual, section 5.2, for more information. We recommend a Battery Balancer to extend the life of the battery connected in series
maximizing lead-acid batteries.

Very low battery power consumption
Power consumption: 0.7 Ah per month (1 mA) at 12V and 0.6 Ah per month (0.8mA) at 24V. Lithium ion batteries in particular have virtually no remaining reserve capacity when discharged to the low-voltage shutdown. After shutdown due to low cell voltage, the remaining capacity of a lithium ion battery is approximately 1 Ah per 100 Ah of battery capacity. The battery will be damaged if the remaining reserve capacity is drained from the battery. For example, a residual current of 10 mA can damage a 200 Ah battery if the system remains in a discharged state for more than 8 days.

Bi-stable alarm relay
Prevents higher power consumption in the event of an alarm.
